An animal welfare activist accused of mistreating a dog has had one of her charges dismissed because it could not be proven.

Elizabeth Town resident Jenny Sielhorst has previously denied three charges of animal cruelty.

It is alleged Sielhorst kicked and threw a dog in September 2010.

It is also alleged that she dragged the dog and threw it in the back of a car and that she later struck it around its head and body.

Sielhorst was running the animal rescue shelter at Deloraine at the time of the alleged offences.

At a hearing in the Magistrates Court in Launceston, Magistrate Robert Pearce ruled the first charge could not be proven and dismissed it.

Defence lawyer Grant Tucker argued the dog was not kicked.

The Magistrate ordered Sielhorst to return to court in June to face the remaining two charges
