In the news today:
A pony has died after it ws attacked by dogs in South Wiltshire.
Nikita, a 19 year old Dark Bay, 14.2hh, New Forest Thoroughbred show hunter pony was found severely injured in Park Cottage Fields in Tollard Royal at around 2:30 pm on Saturday 18th February 2012.
The pony had been attacked by at least one dog and suffered leg injuries so serious that she had no possibility of recovery and had to be put to sleep by a vet.
Nikita had been ridden in the Olympia, Horse of the Year show and the Royal International Show and her loss has deeply shocked and distressed her owner, Angie Cox.
Angie said: ‘It was so horrid, to see her like that was absolutely awful. I am so lost without her, I just cannot get my head around it. I’m petrified to put my other horses out now and hope and pray that we can stop it from happening again.’
Police are appealing for information.
PC Martyn Day said: ‘To find Nikita in such a state was extremely distressing for her owner and I would like to appeal for anyone who was in the area that day and saw anyone walking dogs or who witnessed the incident to contact me.
In particular, I would like to speak to a lady in a silver car stopped in the lane running next to the field and spoke to the owner on the afternoon of Sunday 19th February as she may be able to help us with our enquiries.’
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Day on 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 where details may be left anonymously if preferred.”
